Background: Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) is one of eight herpes viruses commonly stated as human alphaherpesvirus three (HHV-3). It causes chickenpox (varicella) in infants, teens and young adults, and shingles (herpes zoster) in adults; shingles in children are uncommon. Objects: evaluation of Varicella-zoster viruses presence in adult patients by Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). Methods: Venous blood was obtained from the Central Health Laboratory in Baghdad Governorate, Iraq; both male and female participants aged between 1-60 years were included in the study setting from January 2023 to October 2023. Results: In a group of 148 patients suffering from Shingles diagnosis, 49 patients (30.2%) had positive VZV viruses. In addition, out of the entire samples, seventy-four of them (50 %) were diagnosed with different viral illnesses and twenty others (13.51%) were diagnosed with hypertension and the remaining four (2.70%) were asthmatic. On the other hand, five patients (3.37%) of the total sample had no apparent viral infections. Conclusion: The findings reveal that the female showed the highest levels of infection. As well, there was also a sharp incidence of the Varicella Zoster virus viral genome among the female population of Baghdad Governorate, more specifically the aged population within the age range of 40-60 years.
