Abstract

Background: Thalassemia patients are more susceptible to gram-negative microorganisms. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an important opportunistic gram-negative non fermenting bacillus pathogen and is associated with substantial morbidity and mortality. Methods: The present study aimed to determine the molecular profile of common   bacterial infection in Thalassemia patients from August 2022 to December 2023, in the Genetic Blood Diseases Center/Thi-Qar Governorate. Forty blood samples were collected from all patients and subjected to conventional polymerase chain reaction assay using the universal bacterial gene. Results: Five P. aeruginosa  diagnosed isolates were obtained the GenBank  accession numbers  OQ928948.1, OQ929664.1, OQ929665.1,OQ928951.1 and OQ928943. The phylogenetic tree constructed by MEGA10 software showed that there were different molecular relationships among the local P. aeruginosa isolates with analogous ones around the world. Conclusion: Phylogenetic characterization of bacterial infection in Thalassemia patients seems to be an accurate, reliable and more sensitive procedure microbial diagnosis
